Fast and Fabulous Ornament Card Idea

So I signed up for an ornament swap a few weeks ago with the some of my online friends, and the idea was to keep the ornament simple, in your own style, and obviously, something that would mail okay without breaking or falling apart. As I mentioned in a previous post, I adore the new Bright and Beautiful stamp set, so I decided to use it as the focal point for my ornament. Well, actually, it IS my ornament! And since it comes inside a card, it becomes an Ornament Card!

I thought it looked pretty – and the ornament is made out of vellum, so wherever you wind up hanging it the light will show through.  The whole process really wasn’t too difficult, just a bit more time-consuming than anything else. I made nine total card and ornament sets, which meant a lot die-cutting, which is what made it a little more involved.

My primary colors are silver and Night of Navy. I started by cutting the Night of Navy card stock into nine 4¼” x 5½” pieces. I then cut my Whisper White card stock into 4″ x 5¼” rectangles and stamped them with the Hardwood background stamp. I cut out the center of the Whisper White pieces with the Stars Framelits. Using my vellum, I cut out nine stars, stamped them with the Bright and Beautiful coordinating stamp in Night of Navy, and heat embossed them.  I needed twenty-seven of the silver star-shaped frames: one for the Whisper White rectangles and two for the embossed stars (one on each side).

I realized after I was done that the reason the Night of Navy didn’t show up on the vellum was because I was using a thick embossing pad and it diluted the color somewhat. But it’s all good! I just slipped the stars into the card (the Whisper White card stock is attached to the Night of Navy base on the sides and bottom, leaving the top open to insert the ornament), signed them on the back, and they went right into the mail.
