Wicked Folds Pals Blog Hop October 2016 www.craftcarnivore.com

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop, or as I’m calling it today, my nightmare! My web host decided to migrate the servers on my account two days ago and I lost a bunch of posts, and emails, and, oh, yeah, MY MIND!!!

So I’m writing this abbreviated post to show you my projects for today’s blog hop. And yes, I had a fabulous post written, and I was oh, so clever, but know we’ll never know, will we? 😉

Wicked Folds Pals Blog Hop Oct 2016 www.craftarnivore.com

Now before you get all excited, I know I read the prompt wrong. I was so excited about Wicked Folds that I completely ignored that I was supposed to make anything other than an A2 card. Well, Karma and all that, right?

Here’s my second project, once again, all about the folds:

Wicked Folds Pals Blog Hop Oct 2016 www.craftarnivore.com

So there you have it. Please enjoy the rest of the hop and I’ll see you next time, (at which point I may be behind bars or enjoying three squares at the nut house).

Did you know you can decorate plain card stock for a whole new look just by using some stamps and ink? Well, it sure took me long enough to figure that out!

My Favorite Season: Pals Blog Hop September 2016

My Favorite Season Pals Blog Hop September 2016Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for September 2016. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.

This month our projects represent our favorite year end Season. It may be Autumn, Winter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas (and maybe even a combination!) We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you can see all the projects.

My Favorite Season …

… is one where I get to eat things with sugar in them and don’t have to have the air conditioning on. So here in Pennsylvania you’re looking at Halloween and everything after. I guess that means that really my favorite season occurs in the last quarter of the year. Is it coincidence that the best holidays are sweet? I think not.

Halloween? Candy. Lots of it. Thanksgiving? Pies. Check! Christmas? Cookies. Candy. The mother of all holidays where sweets are concerned. You think Valentine’s Day is sweet? You haven’t been to my house!

But today I’m going to focus on Halloween. Why, you ask? Because it’s up first. I will show you Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff later, when I emerge from the sugar coma that begins with my favorite vegetable, candy corn.

My Favorite Season Pals Blog Hop September 2016

Have you had a chance yet to drool over all the goodness that is the Holiday Catalog? It might just be the first sweet thing I love that doesn’t have sugar! Seriously! I love me a good product suite, (yup, I noticed that … suite ~ sweet) and this one doesn’t disappoint:

My Favorite Season Pals Blog Hop September 2016

In my card for today I managed to squeeze in quite a few of the elements included in the Halloween Night product line. See if you can guess what they are:

Well, I’m off to go dreaming of the Milky Way … and the Three Musketeers, too. No Snickers, please. (See what I did there)?  Drop me a line and let me know what your favorite season is. That would be, um, sweet!! Or suite?!

See ya when I see ya!  Amy 🙂

Today I want to share with you some gorgeous cards that I also received at the Gathering for Greatness swap in Chicago. These cards feature the Thoughtful Branches bundle in different ways, all equally stunning. This first one is from Lisa Lange. I love the touches of Peekaboo Peach here!

She has put some Wink of Stella on the apples here, and once again, let’s hear it for Peekaboo Peach! (Yes, it’s one of my favorite In Color 2016-18 colors)!

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

I recently had the good fortune to attend Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016, a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator get-together at the end of July. To say it was awesome is not an exaggeration. I had a  great time meeting other demos whom I recognized from their blogs – I felt starstruck, believe me! There were people there from all over the country, and we also had time to chat via Zoom (similar to Skype) with people like Patty Bennett (Patty Stamps), one of Stampin’ Up!’s million dollar sellers, Sam Hammond from across the pond in England (Pootles Papercrafts), and Kylie Bertucci (Crafty Kylie) from Australia. Amazing women who very generously shared tips, inspiration, and their precious time with us.

I don’t want to forget our fearless leaders, Lisa Mayer Pretto (Ink Big Academy) and Janet Morrow Wakeland (remARKably Created). Look up fun in the dictionary and you’ll see their pictures – right next to awesome, inspiring, and talented! Oh, and did I mention hilarious?

One of the big highlights of the weekend, though, was taking a road trip with my sister-in-law, who is also my downline. We’ve known each other for decades, and we travel very well together. It was so much fun to sit in the hotel room at night and discuss all things stamping and papercrafting. Even better, we get to do it all over again in November when we go to Atlanta for World Card Making Day with Brian King (Stamp with Brian) and we attend Stampin’ Up! OnStage, where we get to see what is coming up in the new 2017 Occasions Catalog and Sale-a-Bration 2017. Cannot wait!

Here we are, Mr. DeMille, ready for our closeup:

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

Gorgeous Swap Cards

One of the things you can usually find at any meeting of demos is a swap, and this Gathering for Greatness was no exception. Our task: to make full cards using current Stampin’ Up! product only, and then, at some point over the weekend, swap out our projects. I gotta tell you, the talent in that group is amazing! And there were also displays set up throughout the room with projects made by demos from all over. Beautiful, amazing stuff!

So today I want to share with you a couple of the swap designs that I really like. This first one is from my sister-in-law, Linda Droege:

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016I love how she uses the Botanical Blooms to such good effect, stamping on the die cut leaves, using vellum, and the way she uses several stamp sets to really make this card pop! (Can you name which ones she has here)?

This next one I thought was outstanding, partly due to its simplicity and due to the color choices, I think.  I’m guessing this is Marette Passero’s card:

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

This next one is from the Seaside Shore collection. I can picture the face of the demo who made this very clearly, but she didn’t put her info on the card anywhere, so I’m not sure of her name. I do remember we laughed together about how she had to stay up into the wee hours in her hotel room the night before the swap to finish up all her cards. 😉

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

And last but not least, here is one from Valerie Malkus, who really blinged up her Moroccan Nights card:

Chicago Gathering for Greatness Chicago 2016

So there you have it, in a nutshell, my fab trip to Chicago for Gathering for Greatness. Hope you like seeing the work that other demos are creating!

See ya when I see ya!     Amy 🙂

Pals Blog Hop August 2016: Cut It Out!

Pals Blog Hop August 2016 LogoWelcome to the Pals Blog Hop August 2016.  We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are featuring projects using our favorite Stampin’ Up! cutting tools. There are so many wonderful punches, framelits and edgelits available that help make papercrafting more detailed and fun! We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link at Stamp with Brian or from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

Did you know? The new Stampin’ Up! framelits come with extra dies! Take a look:

There are THREE extra dies in this set: Yay! 1, Yay! 2, and Yay! 3 For this month’s project I took the Yay!2 die (just go with it) and made a stamp from it – bet you didn’t know you could do that, right? Just take a piece of Fun Foam and run it through the Big Shot using the die. I added some repositionable adhesive to the foam and then used it like a stamp! I stamped it on some clear heat-resistant acetate and embossed it with embossing powder to make this adorable window card:

by Amy Hoptay the Jurassic Crafter for the Pals Blog Hop August 2016, thoughtful branches, thank you card, May Flowers Framelits, for more details click through to my blog! #stampinup #craftcarnivore #thoughtfulbranches

Tips and tricks for making this card

  • I used the Yay! 2 die from the May Flowers Framelits (as shown above) to cut the frame inside my card base and in the card front.
  • Line up the base and front and hold them in place with some washi tape (you need to put the acetate window in between the card front and the card base) and then run them through the Big Shot together; this gives you perfect placement to line up the embossed acetate.
  • The “thank you” sentiment is from the new Thoughtful Branches bundle (#144328). But it’s only available till the end of August!
  • I hope you noticed that yes, I did indeed heat emboss that tiny staple so it would match the card!
  • The May Flowers framelits coordinate with the Falling Flowers stamp set (Bundle #142329).

There are several framelit sets in the Annual Catalog that also have extra dies – what a great way to expand your dies and still have them coordinate with a stamp set!! Be sure to check out the Bundles page in the online catalog by clicking HERE and you will see what I mean.  Oh, and bundles give a better value – save 10%!

Thanks for visiting. To continue with the hop, go to Deb’s Stampin’ Grounds or refer to the Blog Hop Line-up below. We hope to see you on next month’s Pals Blog Hop!

A Final Flourishing Phrases Finale

I guess I’ve been addicted to the Flourishing Phrases bundle from Stampin’ Up! but I promise to try to make this the last post that will highlight it for a while!

So I made this card to send to a friend of mine, remembered to take some pix, and then promptly lost said card. Does that ever happen to you? And believe me, I have looked EVERYWHERE! I think I must spend more time going through the trash than actually making things. It’s so frustrating.

by Amy Hoptay, the Jurassic Crafter, flourishing phrases, floral boutique dsp, note card, for more details click through to my blog! #stampinup #craftcarnivore #floral

  • For example, I lost an oval die after making some projects and didn’t have time to do a more thorough search before I had to leave the house for a craft retreat. When I got home my husband asked if I was missing anything: that stupid die turned up in the WASH! Probably got mislaid when I was stripping the beds to do laundry. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, but I really don’t sleep with my craft supplies.
  • A couple of weeks ago when my sister-in-law was visiting and we were crafting, she asked to use my Basic Grey Stampin’ Up! marker. No problem. However, two days ago, I went through the trash TWICE looking for that same marker, until I remembered it was on the mantel in the dining room!
  • I was looking all over the house for a missing thinlit die. Of course, one of the smaller ones. The next day I found it stuck to the bottom of my iPad cover. I know, you can’t fix stupid.

So here is the card I lost:

by Amy Hoptay, the Jurassic Crafter for more details click through to my blog! #stampinup #craftcarnivore

Unfortunately, this time a picture is NOT worth a thousand words, so I’ll just have to go back to the drawing board. Or maybe I will just use this one:

by Amy Hoptay, the Jurassic Crafter for more details click through to my blog! #stampinup #craftcarnivore

Which is probably what I will do. That is, as long as I can find it. I swear, it was right here just a minute ago … Or was it? 😉

Stampin Up Pals Blog Hop Patterns Floral Bouquet DSP and Floral Phrases Suite Ideas - The Jurassic Crafter stampinup

It’s a Pattern Party!

Stampin Up Pals Blog Hop Pattern Party Floral Boutique Floral Phrases Wedding Anniversary Ideas - The Jurassic Crafter stampinupWho doesn’t love a party? And a pattern party, at that!!

Stripes, Florals, Plaids, Polka Dots, lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop Pattern Party for July 2016. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.

Let’s get this party started!

This month we are featuring projects using our favorite Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper as well as coordinating embellishments. What we love about Stampin’ Up! is that they make it so easy to mix and match colors. And, the amazing selection of embellishments provides a wonderful finished look to our projects. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and, most of all, that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

Floral Boutique Suite

One of my favorite color combinations is Night of Navy and Whisper White – probably because I love the contrast. It’s softer than black and white and yet it still makes a statement.  And my favorite product suite in the catalog is Floral Boutique, hands down! As an example of the beauty of Stampin’ Up! coordination, check out all the fabulous products in the suite (clicking on the image below will take you to my online store):

I know, mind blown, right? You can see why I couldn’t help myself!

For my blog hop project I decided to do a wedding/anniversary card. (Thanks to Dawn Olchefske for the inspiration). The detailed floral thinlits are the only product I didn’t use because I wanted to streamline the process as much as possible. I made multiples of this card for an upcoming event, one that I will elaborate on in the future. Interest piqued? 😉

Stampin Up Pals Blog Hop Pattern Party Floral Boutique Floral Phrases Wedding Anniversary Ideas - The Jurassic Crafter stampinup

Normally I don’t do much sponging when I’m creating, but to me this card just cried out for some. I simply sponged some Night of Navy around the edges of the smaller stamped image because I didn’t want to overwhelm my design.

If you want to see any of these products or any of our other fabulous product suites, simply click HERE to go to my online store.

Stampin Up Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card - the Jurassic Crafter #stampinup

Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card

A sympathy card is my least favorite card to make.

Stampin Up Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card - the Jurassic Crafter #stampinup

Recently I lost my cousin. I don’t know why, but for some reason it really shook me up, beyond the usual sadness and grief. I think it’s because it really hit home how fleeting our time is here on earth, and yes, it made me feel my own mortality. My mother had only one sibling, a sister who was eight years younger than she was. My aunt had three girls, the eldest of whom is just a couple of years younger than me. These were the cousins that I grew up with, played with, had sleepovers with, spent Christmas Eve with until my mom’s mom passed and we were all adults.

My youngest cousin died first, a few years ago. Then my middle cousin died last week. So now my last cousin is my last cousin on that side of my family. Since we live five hundred or so miles apart I wanted to create a card for her that I hope she sees as my attempt to insert a bit of hope and love into her life.

Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card

Stampin Up Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card - the Jurassic Crafter #stampinup

Sometimes simplicity is the most poignant way to convey a shared sense of loss. Rather than a color palette of black I chose to go with Tip Top Taupe and Whisper White. The flourish and sentiments from this stamp set express precisely what I wanted to say. The greeting inside the card is lovely. “Praying that your heart will be lifted by the many loving thoughts that surround you today.”

Here is what the set looks like (clicking on the image will take you to my online store):

Stampin Up Flourishing Phrases Sympathy Card - the Jurassic Crafter #stampinupI urge you now to go and hug your loved ones and take time to enjoy this precious life that we’ve been given. I certainly will do the same!
