Sketchy Saturday Debuts With a New Sketch

Welcome to the very first Sketchy Saturday!

Today I’m going to share with you my very first sketch, and give you some basic instructions to duplicate it on your own. We’ll probably do Sketchy Saturday once a month – and there’s no time like the present to start. So here we go!

The sketch:

Piece A is your card base:  5½” x 4¼”     B is 5¼” x 4″     C=1½”       D=1¼”       E=1¾” x 3½”

Obviously, it’s just a sketch, so you can interpret it any way you want. Instead of actual shapes, I used stamps for C and D, and I stamped on E and then cut around the wording to make a little banner. Bling is a matter of personal taste. I’m not very good at figuring out where it should go to maximize its impact, so I usually place it in a very linear fashion.

For my card base I used Blackberry Bliss; then I stamped on Whisper White (piece B) using the Polka Dot Pieces stamp set and offsetting the images; I then mounted piece B onto A, and scored the lines around the rectangle. I find it easier to deboss the lines first (image side up so you can see what you’re doing) and then I flip the paper over and score over the previous lines so it becomes embossed. I stamped the sentiment, also from Polka Dot Pieces, onto the scrap of Whisper White and fussy cut it. I mounted it with Stampin’ Dimensionals and added my bling.

Now, you can always flip the card so it opens on the right, instead of folded over as it is above:In which case it might look something like this (just to give you an idea; not a finished project):

You get the concept. Now get to work – I want to see what you can do! (And please be courteous – if you use this sketch please give credit where it’s due; that means no sharing without advance permission, no digital or physical replication, no selling, etc.).

Here are the supplies I used:
